Copper Litz Tonearm Wire (HDPE)

Copper Litz Tonearm Wire (HDPE)

£12.95

In stock

High purity copper litz tonearm wire with solid HDPE insulation. Sold by the half metre so you can order the length you need: quantity 1 is 0.5 metres, quantity 2 a full metre, and so on. Most tonearm rewires use no more than half a metre, so a single unit is usually enough for one arm — order more if your arm is long or you want spare to work with.

The set is four separately coloured wires — both channels, signal and return, for a full rewire from the cartridge tags to the base of the arm. Each wire contains 7 strands of Ø0.07mm high purity copper in a Litz construction, enamel coated — the same copper as our silk version — under the solid HDPE insulation.

The difference between the two is the outer covering and how you take it off. Where the silk has to be burned and scraped away, the HDPE strips back from the ends with a fine-gauge wire stripper — we use the Engineer PA-14, which grips wire this thin without nicking the conductors — leaving the enamel-coated copper ready to tin.

The copper strands themselves are enamel coated, so the ends need tinning by around 5mm before use — the heat burns off the enamel and lets the solder take. Without it you are soldering onto insulation and get no connection. This wire is best used by someone with soldering experience.
